Preventative Care: Self-Care and Mindfulness

For our physical wellness, we are taught to seek out medical care, to engage in preventive strategies such as regular doctor’s visits, exercise and healthy eating. For mental wellness, however, we usually do not engage in preventative strategies, and usually do not address mental health issues until we feel that something is wrong, often making recovery a greater challenge.

If we invest in our mental wellness the way we invest in our physical wellness, we may feel more prepared to support ourselves and our loves ones during time of crisis or stress.

Ways to engage in preventative mental wellness include engaging in regular self-care, feeling comfortable enough to rely on support networks for help, and advocating for your needs within systems such as school, work and relationships.
